Becoming a racehorse owner is a thrill like no other! From the excitement of watching your horse on the gallops for the first time, to the rush of adrenaline as your horse passes the winning line first, racehorse ownership is an unparalleled experience. Racehorse ownership is now more accessible than ever with a range of options available you can join us on the unique journey that comes with owning a racehorse.
Having had a lifelong love of all things equine in 2012 I decided to get involved in racing flat horses as an owner. On spotting an advert for shared ownership in a two year old with Bryan Smart at Hambleton House I paid a visit. On meeting Bryan and his staff who were all helpful and clearly very knowledgeable I was hooked. The last seven years have been a marvellous journey having had over 20 winners including a Group 1 and a Listed race which is in no small way down to a master trainer. On my journey I have met some wonderful people many of whom are now friends.
Team Smart are truly the custodians of the dream factory!!!

If you are a sole owner you will own the horse outright as a registered owner with the BHA. Your horse will run in your colours and if unnamed you can have fun naming your horse whatever you like. All costs and profits will be yours alone and you can take as much involvement as you like with Bryan as he trains and prepares your horse to run. You are invited to come and watch your horse on the gallops as often as you like as your horse progresses towards making the racecourse. On race day you will receive complimentary owners badges for access to the owner’s facilities on the racecourse plus complimentary dining so you can bring along friends and family members to enjoy the day with you.
If you wish to purchase a horse as a yearling or at the Breeze Up Sales you can join Bryan in the process of selecting your dream racehorse by attending the sales, studying the pedigrees and watching the auction.
Bryan has a fantastic track record when it comes to selecting horses at the sales or privately.

This type of ownership is for two or more registered owners who own or lease a horse or horses. This allows owners to split the costs and winnings in accordance with their ownership share. Partnerships are a great way for a group of friends or likeminded individuals to get involved in a racehorse. This type of ownership can be for between 2 and 12 people and works much like it would for a sole owner other than you can split the costs and winnings together.

We have a number of our own ‘Smart Syndicates’ that we run and administer in house. We like our members to feel a part of Team Smart with our syndicate owners invited to the yard to watch the horses on the gallop in beautiful North Yorkshire with Bryan or Beth available to answer questions via phone or email at any time. We operate an open door policy and owners are not restricted to syndicate only mornings to visit the yard. We guarantee every owner an owner’s badge every time the horse runs regardless of the size of the share owned and aim to accommodate friends and family wherever possible so that everyone gets a share of the action and the ownership experience on and off the racecourse. We have a pre-season syndicate open morning each year where owners can visit the yard to watch their horses as they prepare for the season ahead. We also enjoy an end of season party when we share out any trophies and celebrate a great season together.
